Getting Here

Location

Herman Lake is located just outside the charming community of Eagle Bay in the Shuswap, 45 minutes from Salmon Arm and 85 minutes from Kamloops. Other nearby towns include Blind Bay, Sorrento, Sicamous, and Chase.

Driving Directions

Our location is off-grid, accessed via a forest service road. In summertime the road is fine for vehicles with normal clearance, but be prepared to pick up a layer of dust in the last two kilometres if it hasn’t rained recently! (click photo to expand)

From Salmon Arm – 45 mins

[Get to Salmon Arm from Kelowna via Hwy 97 North then left onto 97B at Enderby/Grindrod, then left onto Hwy 1 West, continue to Salmon Arm. Coming from Revelstoke: take Hwy 1 West; due to construction near Sicamous in 2026 you may be directed to the ‘Alt Route’ on 97A and 97B, look for the signs.]

  1. Take Hwy 1 West towards Sorrento, Kamloops, etc.
  2. After going past Tappen and Carlin, take the first Blind Bay exit, Balmoral Rd (right turn).
  3. Just after passing Blind Bay Village Grocer and gas station, Balmoral Rd turns into Eagle Bay Rd (go straight). Stay on Eagle Bay Rd as it winds along the shoreline, for about 17 minutes.
  4. A few minutes after passing the Eagle Bay Mercantile store, turn right onto Ivy Rd.
  5. Go all the way up Ivy and continue after it turns to a gravel road.
  6. Continue past the sign that says “end of maintained public road” and soon after that, the “Bastion-Ivy FSR” sign. Continue on the same road.
  7. After nearly 2 km (past the marshy lake on your left), turn left at the fork in the road (see sign directing you left to the private campground).
  8. Follow our private driveway, through the tall gate, past the lake – when you see the large dinosaur sign you’ve reached the campground!

From Kamloops – 85 mins

[From Vancouver you can get to Kamloops via Hwy 5 (Coquihalla – fastest), Hwy 1, or Whistler/Lillouette/Cache Creek.]

  1. Take Hwy 1 East towards Salmon Arm. You’ll go past Chase then reach Sorrento.
  2. A few minutes after Sorrento, take the Balmoral Rd exit to Blind Bay.
  3. Follow steps 3 onward from the Salmon Arm directions above to get to our location.
